indie-band-of-the-week-banner - glitzy glowGlitzy Glow Swedish Glam Metal band formed in 2004. The band’s current lineup is Johnny Roxxy (Bass), Julia (Vocals), Wingz (Guitar) and Daniel Jackzin (Drums),  with which they have been touring and tearing up Sweden over the past four years while working on their recently released self-titled album: Glitzy Glow.

We at Rock Revolt got the chance to sit down with Johnny Roxxy for an interview about new their new album, career and everything else that makes them our INDIE BAND OF THE WEEK!

Hi. How are you?

Hi there! Everything is great! Well the summer is slipping away sadly, but one thing is good, I always get extra energy during fall, we need to getting it all together with the release of the album and of course some cool music videos.

How did the tour go?

You know, we got fans in every corner of the world thanks to the Internet and some great fans that really do such a great work spreading the Glitzy Glow. We couldn’t tour all continents this time around, but Sweden for sure and hopefully other countries in Europe for the next one.

You guys just released a self-titled album. How is it going so far?

Yes. The album just released in September, and well, this album has really been a long journey for us…many hours in the studio on different locations and time and great people that we have had the privilege to work with.

How is the song writing process like for Glitzy Glow?

Many of the songs were written from the very start of the band and back then I wrote the music and Julia did the vocals and lyrics and then we did the arrangements with rest of the guys. When it’s a long time gap from when you wrote the song and when you finally record it you always try some new ideas in the studio…and many came from the other half of the band Wingz and Jackzin. We have already started working on the next album and I’m looking forward hearing song ideas from both Wingz and Jackzin.

What were your biggest influences in the album?

Ohh man! Well, at the time we wrote the songs on this album, both me and Julia listened a lot to music from Europe, Kiss, Entombed, Tori Amos, Kate bush, Mötley and Rage (Germany).

The band was formed in 2004 (that’s been 10 years now!) What would you say have changed since the beginning?

Well, from the beginning I played the guitar and we were a five piece band and we had three band members that are not in the band today. Me, Julia and Jackzin on drums were in the band from the start and Wingz came along in 2008 or 2009 I believe. We took a decision to have two guitars on the debut album like the songs were written so the live sound is going to be different I believe, so maybe a live album could be something to follow up the debut album (laughs)

Are there any tips on what to do and what not to do when starting a band?

Well! One thing: don’t give up, and remember that it’s not always a dance on roses and you will get upset with one another in the band at one time or another, but as long that you all stick to the plan you’ll pull it through…maybe one man short, but you’ll find the right chemistry in the end, we surely have.

50% of your songs’ sales goes to the charity Love Hope Strength. Why did you decide to do that? Is it a charity close to your heart for some special reason? If so, why?

When I saw that we could do charity with our music, there was really no hesitation at all. I found the charity Love Hope Strength and I was thinking of my mother and a late band member, both lost to cancer, and both way too young.

From everywhere you guys have played, where would you say you had the best on-stage experience?

Well, it has to be one of the smallest gigs we’ve done, at a Motorcycle Club. It was very small and intense with a great crowd. I think I got some photos of the gig that a good friend of mine took. The thing that I love about that gig was the connection we had with the crowd; they really gave us so much response so we had a hard time keeping up with them!

Is there anything you would like to say to our readers?

I really do hope you all will have a listen to the Glitzy Glow debut album and feel free to write us on our Facebook page or at info@glitzyglow.com if you have any questions or just want to say hi!

Perfect! Thank you for the interview!
