Who are you and what is your role in the band?
I’m Cerena Del Mar and I play the microphone. A.K.A. lead singer and songwriter!
How did the band get started?
I’ve been singing and performing solo for years now. But gradually as things got more serious I added more people musically. Live music with a real band is the best in studio or out.
Who are your influences and how do they play a role in your sound?
Bands and artists like The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Amy Winehouse, Weezer and Janis Joplin all influence me and my sound. My list of bands is extensive and eclectic, but I really pull from these guys a lot for my own material. Their vibes and originality struck me for as long as I can remember.
What has been your most meaningful experience being in this band so far?
Being able to hear that someone loves my tunes or that my record is someone’s new favorite is the most meaningful thing I could ever experience. When something you do from the heart it really hits when someone else tells you they enjoy it or that they can relate. That’s one of the amazing things about creating music. It’ll always make my millennium.
Favorite memory from a show you’ve played or a place you’ve travelled?
I have to say my very first show ever is still one of my favorite memories to date. I was so nervous beforehand that I almost didn’t get on stage. But once I was on there I got completely lost in the music. It was exhilarating and I knew then that I was born to do this.
What do you hope to accomplish with your music?
I hope I can inspire people to follow their own dreams, as well as be there for them through music. We’ve all faced hardships and heartbreaks. I want them to be able to hear my music and forget about everything else for a while.
Something about you that no one knows?
My personal friends and family know this, but I don’t think other people really understand my love for cats and Disney. I’m a big kid at heart, and I obsess over any of that stuff. Take my cat and I to Disneyland and I’m set!
What is next for the band?
More shows! I intend on playing a lot more on this record before I get back into the studio officially to work on the second album. Other than that, new things come up every day, so we’ll see!
