LIVE PICS / SHOW REVIEW: GHOST with PURSON

Ghost deliver amazing sermon to “The children of Kansas” as the “Black to the future” tour hits Lawrence

Liberty Hall – Lawrence, KS

SMI_0128On Monday October 5th, 2015 Liberty Hall in Lawrence, KS, the masses got to experience their first live sermon from Papa Emeritus III. Opening the sermon was Purson, psychedelic acid rock band hailing from Southend-on-Sea, England. As the place went dark before they took the stage, the crowd settled in for the show. As the soft red lights came on the band could be seen through a foggy haze. As they started to play the audience just kind of set back and took in the vibe that was being sent out throughout the Hall. As everyone was happily just melting away to the awesome gritty guitar sounds that took them back to a time some 40 years removed, I found myself kind of getting lost in the music as well. It was a nice change of pace from the music that I have been listening to lately, and it reminded me to take my head out of the hole and mix it up a lot more than I have been.

As Purson left the stage the crowd was getting amped up by the second as they awaited the message Papa Emeritus III and his band of Nameless Ghouls were about to deliver to them. Now I am not going to lie, I was not really sure what the big deal was, as I have never really experienced their music, I learned quickly, though. As the Nameless Ghouls took to the stage and started to mash out “Spirit” I was locked in. While the Nameless Ghouls may have lacked any type of facial expressions, all of their emotions poured through their instruments and body language. The crowd came unhinged as Papa Emeritus III took to the stage. Shouts of “Preach to us father” could be heard in the Hall as he started singing. Chants of “Spirit”, “Absent” rang out as the disciples sang along. As the night progressed, so did my interest in this band as “Stand By Him” and “He Is” kept the night going. My personal favorite was the masterful performance of “Ghuleh/Zombie Queen” this alone is worth going to see Ghost. Shows like this one are the reason I am lucky to be doing what I am doing. It opens me up to experiences that I would have never experienced myself, and for that I am thankful. Thank you Purson and thank you Ghost, I truly enjoyed this experience.
