We can’t all ways make it to the concert. We may not have the money, the time, or the ability, even though we might have the burning desire and the will to go, to get an in person look at Blue October. But thanks to their new DVD, Things We do at Night (Live from Texas), we have an opportunity to see them any time we want from the comfort of our own homes. After watching this video, I realized DVD players everywhere will wear down due to overuse. A top-notch camera crew at Eleven 55 Films did an outstanding job giving the sensation that viewers are sitting front row in the House of Blues in Dallas, Texas. The concert features songs from the albums released between their first and current live albums. The name of the film is the same as a song from their latest studio album, Sway.

In addition giving home viewers an audience perspective, you will get a feel for band’s as well. The video starts with the band huddled up to go up on stage, and at the end of the show, they are featured at home with their family members. This isn’t some wild drug and alcohol fueled party band; these are good, wholesome musicians. They live for the music. From start to finish, from “To Be” to “Light it Up,” “The End” to “Things We do at Night,” the band never loses momentum. Every musician has mastered his craft, and the band couldn’t stand to lose one member. The lyrics sung by Justin Furstenfeld are relatable lyrics cut straight to the soul. Blue October has done the thing that every band strives to do, make their audiences feel. They’ve mastered their music, lyric writing, and stage presence to perform the complex procedure of turning emotion into sound passing through air into the audience’s ears and turning it back into emotion again. Every heart in the building was felt with warmth, euphoria. Music like this can unify an concert hall, a stadium, maybe even the world. This DVD is a cure for depression, hate, and indifference. Ditch your shrink and buy Blue October’s Things We Do at Night.
