The Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood was home to an absolutely sold-out and packed show on November 11th: Combichrist, The Birthday Massacre, Echo Black, and MXMS. Rock Revolt senior photojournalist Anabel DFlux was there to brave the crowds and capture all of the action!
Echo Black
“We are ghosts. And you will know us.” states rock band Echo Black, as the four find themselves performing at the world famous Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood. With energy, fun, and excitement, their stage performance was both entertaining and very musically proficient.
Each member brought their charming personalities to the forefront, often interacting with each other and the audience below. The band opened with their debut song Burn Another Day (featuring Davey Suicide), and the fans responded enthusiastically to the entire performance.
These lads most definitely have a rock star future ahead of them!

MXMS
MXMS, short for “Me and My Shadow”, put on a unique and eccentric stage performance. Adorned with two large screen playing dark, melancholy imagery, MXMS was quite haunting and beautiful. Some of the songs were more upbeat than others, but vocalist Ariel Levitan’s voice is absolutely exquisite, and pianist Jeremy Dawson is quite talented. This unique multimedia project was a great addition to the lineup, and a wonderful companion to the other bands on the list.

The Birthday Massacre
An absolute fan favorite, The Birthday Massacre put on a delightfully dark show at the Whisky a Go Go. There is no question as to why this band has such a loyal following, the sound is as unique as the members within the group. Each member appeared absolutely charmed to be performing, and the audience ate up every bit of gothic pleasure from the show. The light show made for a very atmospheric performance, drowning the stage in beautiful colors. The set list ran through a series of crowd favorite songs, including Pins and Needles, In The Dark, and more.
(Special thank you to Ian Gray for being the second shooter during The Birthday Massacre)

Combichrist
Vigor, adrenaline, excitement- that is Combichrist. An absolute party on stage, it is impossible not to be moving during this metal act. The show opened with a slow, acoustic beginning, only to jump right into a wild performance. Each member plays with an unmatched fervor, making the concert quite an experience to all those lucky enough to attain tickets. The infamous Combichrist brought such a liveliness to the evening that every audience member was up in the air by the end of the performance.
