On February 18th, while most of Portland was at home avoiding snowpocalypse 2018, the rock and roll die-hards were in the Roseland Theater for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (BRMC).
Having just release their latest LP, titled Wrong Creatures, the BRMC rolled into Portland to a sold-out venue. Opening up the show was a group called Night Beats. Night Beats played a lively 45 minute set, while the Portland crowd swayed and danced along. As the set change was taking place, the crowd really started to fill in. The balcony was completely jammed and there was very little moving space around the floor.
At 9:15, BRMC finally took the stage. Leah Shapiro took command of the kit while Peter Hayes and Robert Been, with instruments in hand, delivered over two hours of passionate rock and roll. The Portland fanbase is strong, with many singing along with every track. BRMC played several songs from their latest release, and the crowd didn’t miss a beat.
Peter and Robert sang harmoniously through much of the set and for a few songs they traded opportunities to solo. Their set clocked in at just shy of two hours and 15 minutes, but for the entire set, it was pure adrenaline. When the set was over and the lights came up, the crowd didn’t rush to file out of the building. As if our mere presence would prompt a second encore. But alas, the show was over and it was time to brave the snow (slush). What an incredible show.
