ALBUM REVIEW: THE ATOMIC BITCHWAX ‘GRAVITRON’

Have you ever heard of THE ATOMIC BITCHWAX?  Well, they might just be the best power trio from the Jersey Shore.  If you can tell, I’m a big fan. What is it: their sound? Their energy? Yes and yes. THE ATOMIC BITCHWAX features bassist/vocalist Chris Kosnik and drummer Bob Pantella (both also play with MONSTER MAGNET) alongside guitarist extraordinaire/vocalist Finn Ryan.

Gravitron, the band’s sixth studio release (third release with Tee Pee Records) features 10 tracks, all original, high energy, wall of sound, “stoner” rock. This LP stands true to the classic TAB sound: 60’s and 70’s-based hard rock infused with stabs of 60’s psychedelic and progressive rock influences of today. Their influences include: Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, and the Cars, just to name a few.  Every song on the album is unique and has value. Gravitron is certainly heavier than last albumTAB 4 featuring current band line up. It’s darker, more gothic and less sci-fi like their previous albums. Honestly, the entire ATOMIC BITCHWAX library is phenomenal: TAB 1, TAB 2, TAB 3, TAB4, The Local Fuzz and now Gravitron.

When you see THE ATOMIC BITCHWAX live they are absolutely riveting:  no one can take their eyes and ears off of them. It’s because of the musicianship of the trio: the songwriting, the tone of the guitar and bass, and the technique of the drummer. What these guys do in a 3 piece most bands can’t do in 4-5 players with a sound engineer and backing tracks.

If you haven’t already, then you must check them out!  The best $10.00 you spend this month will no doubt be on Gravitron. I’m giving it five skulls!
