A Skylit Drive reminds one of a mix of Motionless in White meets AFI with hints of Avenged Sevenfold. Listening to this album, I feel as if I should be sitting in a corner cutting my wrists and crying about Lilith leaving me! And by that I mean no ill will, yet merely stating the depressing vibe set forth from this album. The latest effort from the Cali band A SKYLIT DRIVE entitled RISE: ASCENSION is just downright damn depressing. People with issues such as myself and albums like this tend to stick around a tad longer than most. Whether this was the intention from the band, this is the outcome…So with that being said I suppose in some odd way it touched me to a point, and for that I can’t say it doesn’t work. They’ve earned a fan whom was never a METALCORE fan.
The songs “Just Stay” and “Crash Down” have some power and deep emotions behind them and do touch my inner being. They make me ponder on relationships lost, and for that I thank them; few have achieved that. Given that tirade I feel this album is solid and has severe potential yet feel like there is a missing element, making this a frontrunner in the METALCORE genre. I just can’t quite put my finger on it
One amazing note that MUST BE addressed is this album is entirely done acoustically, and for that, major props must be given. Not many bands can achieve success acoustically, especially an entire album. As previously mentioned I’m not much of a METALCORE fan but this album is solid. I suggest picking it up.
