Memphis, Tennessee, is home to many things: The Blues, BBQ, and The King. Lost in all of that musical history is a band for today. One Less Reason puts their emotions on their sleeve through the heartfelt writing of front man Cris Calib. On August 19th, 2016, One Less Reason released their latest offering to the world in the form of their new album, The Memories Uninvited.

After listening to the album at least six times, the title to this album could not fit it more perfectly. Pain, agony, loss, and just pure love are all laced throughout this album in some of the best song writing that I have heard in a long time. It puts a smile on my face to see that there are still some great writers left out there in the world, and they are putting out great music to accompany the stories of their life that they are putting out there for the entire world to hear.

The Memories Uninvited starts off the journey with the opening track, “Break Me“. This track sets the tone of the album but not in the sense you might think. “Break Me has a harder, more edgy sound than any of the other songs on the album. So how does it set the tone, you ask. Well, you have to listen to the lyrics. Yes I know, something you’re not used to. In today’s pop, there are only eleven total words to a song culture, but you need to actually listen to these songs. “Break Me is an excellent example of the lyricism of the band and showcases the raw emotion this album is about to hit you with.

The second track, “Something Beautiful, while being harder than the rest of the songs on the album, starts to soften a little and set you up for the more melodic, mellow tunes on this album. Halfway through this lyrical masterpiece is a song that just will grab you by the heart strings with its soft piano and the voice of Cris Calib telling the story of a love that he is missing and the woman who just won’t pick up the phone. I keep saying it, but the lyrical content of this album is something to not be missed. Wrapping up this album is the acoustic ballad “Rainmaker, a powerful song of loss and emotional tragedy between a man and a woman.

For a lot of people music is a powerful tool that connects them to their everyday lives; this album is one that does that very same thing. Just the pure hurt and pain that The Memories Uninvited represents also shows the power of love that two people can have for one another.
