ALBUM REVIEW – Fire From the Gods: Narrative Retold

Fire From the Gods released, Narrative Retold, an album made up of sound that stems from pain, conviction and a righteous rage. AJ Channer’s lyrics are sung with a personal ownership that can’t be duplicated, they are him and the message is his. The quintet is able to mix in a bit of Hip Hop and even Reggae at times.

Their hit song, “Excuse Me” is a prime example of this, blending just the smallest amounts of three genres in it’s haunting call for peace.  The instrumental part of this album is impressive, yet it is the vocal side that stands out the most and holds the songs together. The acoustic version makes an appearance at the end of the album, and you can watch the video for it below.

The guitar, drums, and bass don’t stand out in their own on this album, but they serve as a back drop to AJ’s voice. Channer’s vocal range takes the listener through a wide range of emotions matching his narrative as he brings it to life.  You won’t find a better example of this then “End Transmission.” And, you won’t find a more heartfelt, socially conscious Metal album than Narrative Retold. I give it four out of five skulls.
