Ten years ago, Las Vegas band Five Finger Death Punch released The Way Of The Fist. Through these ten years, things haven’t always gone smoothly for them. But despite the tabloid headlines and minor hiccups, FFDP have been delivering solid albums every two years, like clockwork, with the most recent release, Got Your Six released in 2015. It’s 2017 now, and we’re due for another dose of the heavy stuff.
So, it turns out that the band has turned their newest offering over to their label. And while the legal issues continue, and we have yet to get a firm release date, Prospect Park have offered us an olive branch in the form of a greatest hits album. The greatest hits album, titled Decade of Destruction dropped Friday.
Decade of Destruction includes 16 tracks, totaling just over an hour of some of the heaviest songs of the past ten years. There are two tracks on the album that don’t appear on previous works, however. “Trouble,” the first track is a heavy banger with a catchy rhythm riff. The solo is precise and rhythmic, adding just the right amount of flair without being too over the top. Ivan’s vocals are menacing and powerful. I hope that this track is a taste of what’s to come when their new album hits.
Track two is a cover of The Offspring’s “Gone Away.” FFDP has taken the classic and made it heavier and slowed the tempo just a bit, giving off a strong ballad vibe.
The rest of the album is a solid offering, giving a good sample across the entire FFDP anthology with a bit of emphasis on their more recent works. The track list would translate well to the stage in the form of a set list representing a good balance of aggressive headbangers and passionate ballads.
If you’ve got friends or family and need some Xmas gift ideas, a greatest hits album like Decade Of Destruction would be a great way to introduce them to the way of the fist.
