Back to Momo is an album chock full of adrenaline, heart, and grit. Blacklist Union’s fourth studio album is a combination of all that is right with music. It has the feel of alternative, punk, and classic metal and something new altogether. Tony West and Todd Youth have truly written a masterpiece that should go down with some of the greatest alternative albums in history. The lyrics are dark, inspiring and clever.
The intro is a sound clip of a man saying, “Our youths are led astray by people who ought to know better” and goes on to say, “they’re paving their way to heaven only to find they’ve paved their way to hell.” The fact that the first song is called “Alive-N-Well Smack in the Middle of Hell” sets the theme for the album. The theme is that of defiance, endurance and a will to overcome the odds, to be what you want, who you want. This is truly one of the more inspiring albums of its genre.
“Shake it Off” mirrors West’s upbringing and rough journey to Rock and Roll. In response to all his hardships, he sings, “I’m going to shake it, I’m going to break it, I’m going to make it, I’m going to shake it off all night long.” Those lyrics give you that “I can overcome anything feeling!”
West’s voice is like a combination of Ozzy Osbourn and Axl Rose. Guitarist Mark Fain outdoes himself on every song. This a great album to pop in the CD player while speeding down the interstate. Back to Momowill be mentioned with the Black Sabbath’s Master of Reality, Guns and Roses’ Appetite for Destruction, and Led Zeppelin’s Led, Zeppelin II.
