Influenced by BENEATH THE MASSACRE, one can easily see the resemblance. Formed in 2010 in Queensland’s Brisbane, Australia AVERSIONS CROWN set out to do something a little different than their countries predecessors, so they ended up leaning toward the sound known as deathcore. The release of their new album Tyrant which dropped a few weeks or so ago shows the maturity these guys have acquired in just three years.
Herein this album you have songs such as “Avalanche”, which is properly titled, allowing them to go straight for the jugular from opening riff to the final chord, leaving little room to come up for air and possibly vomit a little in your mouth, as the taste left behind is just too much to handle. Other songs, such as the most played “Vectors”, as well as “Overseer”, set the tone for an hours worth of listening of some grade A metal. “Xenoforms” rolls in and mash-metals you straight in the face, making you feel as if you’re balls deep in the most heinous Slayer mosh pit. Those of you who know about this genre know that to be able to play alongside those cats, you must bring your A game and Aversions Crown has done just that.

The guttural vibes of vocalist Colin Jeffs bring a nice refreshing sound to an oversaturated genre and slams deathcore back into the spotlight surrounded by three guitarists shredding it up on 8-string guitars, unleashing a barrage of tunes that will take you to a place in your mind far, far away. Available on Nuclear Blast Records, Aversions Crown’s Tyrant is like listening to a horror movie in your head and running from a chainsaw wielding maniac chasing you through the woods. It’s phenomenal and I for one feel all should jump at the chance to get this.
I give this album a solid 3.5 out of 5 skulls!
