Comedian Jim Breuer caused quite an uproar in the music world today with the release of a recent episode of his The Metal in Me podcast. Ultimate Classic Rock Magazine reported Breuer’s statements and a link to the audio of the show. Breuer claimed that he had spoken with Brian Johnson of AC/DC and that the singer sounded “depressed” and had essentially been “kicked to the curb” by group leader Angus Young after fronting AC/DC for over 36 years since the death of Bon Scott in 1980. The band announced on March 7, 2016 that they were postponing their U.S. “Rock Or Bust” tour due to hearing issues with Johnson.
Just a short while ago, Breuer responded with the below post to his Facebook Page, saying that he was simply “venting” and the entire recount of his conversation with Johnson was simply an exaggeration in which he got carried away. Although this is far from an outright denial or complete recant, we’ll take it for now.
I personally think that Breuer overstepped the boundaries of his friendship with Johnson by discussing this on his show, if told those things in confidence to a friend, I’d be extremely pissed off if they told their sister – let alone the world. But you decide for yourself. (LISTEN TO THE AUDIO PODCAST)
We have reached out to both AC/DC’s label and publicist for their response on this, but have not heard back. Until we do, I think this is yet one more time when it suffices to say that you shouldn’t believe everything you read or hear – even when it comes from a “good friend” of a band member.
