Interview: Alteras

1. Where did the name Alteras come from?
Alteras is actually a Spanish/Latin word meaning “you change”.
2. You guys recently announced that you signed to Revival Recordings and will be releasing your label debut, Grief on August 5th. How long has this been in the works?
It’s been a long time coming, we really tried to hold it in as long as we could to make sure its’ release was significant for the band. Releasing through Revival Recordings is incredibly exciting for us, I’m convinced we couldn’t have asked for a better team to become a part of for the release of Grief .
4. You recorded Grief with Nick Ingram at Capital House Studios. What was the experience like working with Nick?
Nick is an amazing producer. He’s definitely not afraid to tell you how he feels about things which really helps force you to do your best. He’s definitely awesome to work with and I hope that we’re able to work with him again in the future, perhaps on our next release.
5. The album reminds me a lot of the early 00’s post hardcore scene. What were some of your musical influences when writing the album?
We all listen to a lot of different music and all of it carried into the writing process. Some of our favorites back when writing this include Armor For Sleep, Bring Me The Horizon, Maroon 5, Pierce The Veil, Coldplay, Sleeping With Sirens, Attack! Attack!, and Beartooth.
6. What made you guys name the album Grief? Is there a meaning behind the name?reduced2
The album is actually conceptual, each of the songs is representative of the grieving process. Grief walks you through all of the emotions involved: shock, acceptance, and everything in between.
7. I see you guys are touring with Roots Like Mountains and Adventurer later this month. Any other tours coming up?
We have a lot of tours in the making, unfortunately nothing we can talk about just yet!
8. What is your craziest road story?
One time when we were suppose to play a show in Illinois we showed up and the building appeared to be a vacant, powerless, shack. The building was in between the police station and the public library, so naturally we thought we had to have the wrong address. We walked around the town and asked if anyone had heard of the venue and legitimately every person said it didn’t exist. About an hour later the promoter shows up, opened the shack doors and we played a show in a tiny room with concrete floors and both unfinished walls and ceiling. It actually ended up being really awesome, it was just really shady and hilarious. The police from the station next door even came by and check out our set.
9. Thanks for chatting today. Any last words?
Thanks for giving the opportunity! And thank you to anyone reading this, we couldn’t have accomplished any of this without our supporters. Please check out our new music video “Could Ever Love” and pre-order bundles available on alteras.merchnow.com!
