SHOW REVIEW AND PHOTOS: SKILLET

Skillet at Winter Jam 2015

While the world was receiving news of the tragedy in Paris, I was headed out to the Winter Jam in Portland, Oregon. Winter Jam is the largest touring Christian music event in the country, and I was on hand to capture live pictures of the Hard Rock Christian Metal band Skillet, for RockRevolt Magazine. In light of the events happening at the Bataclan, with heavy heart, I couldn’t help but look around and absorb the atmosphere around me. In a completely packed Moda Center, thousands of individuals came to support their religious affiliation through peace and solidarity through the common medium of music.

Newsong, the band that started Winter Jam back in 1995, is still touring strongly, with friends Family Force 5, We Are Messengers, Jamie Grace, For King & Country, and several others joining them to share in their message of peace on one of the largest stages in North America. Closing out Winter Jam was none other than the Grammy Award-nominated hard rock band, Skillet. Husband and wife duo John and Korey Cooper, along with Seth Morrison and the incredibly talented Jen Ledger, completely blew the doors off the Moda Center. I’ll be honest here, I’m a guitar guy. I love the chugging power chords and rippin’ solos, but I was absolutely floored by Jen Ledger. Not only her vocals, but everything Jen was doing on the drum kit was mind-blowing. All bullshit aside, you all should get out there just to hear Jen Ledger pound the skins!
