Honestly, Tuesdays are kind of a drag for the most part; Friday and the weekend are just so far away! But on this particular Tuesday, July 28th to be exact, I ventured down to Amos’ Southend in Charlotte, NC to check out 10 Years and Nonpoint on their When the Sky Cracks Open tour with Awaken the Empire and The Family Ruin. Truth be told, I’ve been to hundreds of concerts, taken thousands of photos, but this was a special show for me as it was only the 2nd show I got to shoot as a “pro.” You know, media credential, DSLR camera, etc. My normal subjects are sleeping babies with perfect lighting so I knew it would be a challenge, but man I was so stoked!!
Awaken the Empire opened the show and sounded pretty damn good. They put on a great show with a lot of energy, especially from frontman Damien Lawson. Definitely a bands to keep yours eyes and ears open for!

The Family Ruin was up next and man they had some hardcore fans up front on the rail! I had heard a couple of their tracks on XM/Octane so I was looking forward to their set and they did not disappoint. Ton of energy from top to bottom, highly recommend checking them out! I certainly did!

Nonpoint took the stage at approximately 9:00pm and immediately tore in to “The Wreckoning,” followed by my personal favorite “Alive and Kicking.” Next up was a medley of “Hands Off” and Jay-Z classic “99 Problems.” As always, Nonpoint put on an amazing show!

Finally at about 10:30pm the house lights went down and the packed house erupted as 10 Years emerged and took their places. They kicked in to the title track from their newest release “From Birth to Burial” out of the gate, followed by the first single “Miscellanea.” Throughout their set 10 Years dipped in to most of their discography playing songs from 2004’s Killing all that Holds You to Minus the Machine and everything in between, with a heavy dose of ‘Burial.’ Crowd favorite and breakout track “Wasteland” and high octane “Shoot it Out” wrapped up a well-polished set!
