November 1, 2014 – We were deeply shocked and saddened to receive a press release stating the following:
Platinum selling musician Wayne Richard Wells, better known as WAYNE STATIC, passed away at the age of 48.
WAYNE STATIC was the enigmatic former frontman and namesake of Static-X, who later forged a successful solo career. Wayne was scheduled to co-headline tours with Powerman 5000 and Drowning Pool over the next several months.
No additional information is available at this time.
The cause of the singer’s death is unknown at this time.
Long-time family friend and former publicist, Nancy B. Sayle (Founder of Rock Against MS), told RockRevolt, “I just got off the phone with his wife, Tera Wray Static. Wayne was getting ready for tour last night and they were going to leave today. Wayne never woke up. He passed quietly in bed in the wee hours of the morning.”Â
Rumors are already circulating online that drugs may have played a part in the singer/guitarists death. Â
Sayle emphatically stated, “The couple, known for partying heavy, had left hard drugs in 2009 and had not touched them since. Static’s first solo album, Pighammer, was a tribute to his new non-drug life and hoped it would help others to get clean from hard chemical drugs.  I’m sure more information about his passing will be released in the following days, but this is not a drug related incident or an O.D.. This was NOT DRUGS.”Â
UPDATE 11/3/2014: Statement by Tera Wray Static was posted on the Wayne Static Facebook Page:

Wayne Static (born Wayne Richard Wells) founded Static-X in Los Angeles in 1994. The band would go on to release six studio albums—the platinum Wisconsin Death Trip (1999), the gold Machine(2001), Shadow Zone (2003), Start A War (2005), Cannibal (2007) and Cult Of Static (2009)—before they parted ways in 2009. Static then released his debut solo album, Pighammer, in 2011.
Please be courteous to his family and wife and leave positive messages. Our hearts go out to them all.
RIP Wayne…you will be missed.Â
