Here in America we are celebrating Memorial Day. Now we have a memorial of another kind to celebrate as Queen guitarist Brian May confirmed that the group will release a new record entitled Queen Forever sometime later this year which will feature several previously unreleased songs sung by the late Freddie Mercury.
“We found a few more tracks with Freddie singing and all of us playing and they are quite beautiful. People will be hearing this work towards the end of the year,” May says. “We are going to put out an album which will probably be called ‘Queen Forever.’ It is a compilation but will have this material that nobody in the world has ever heard. I think people will really enjoy it.”
May described the tracks with Mercury, saying, “Most of it comes from the ’80s when we were in full flight. It’s quite emotional. It is the big, big ballads and the big, big epic sound. It wouldn’t have been if we hadn’t have done this restoration job. We had to start from scratch because we only had scraps. But knowing how it would have happened if we had finished it, then I can sit there and make it happen with modern technology. You can do almost anything with ProTools.”
Check out the whole interview May did, along with photographer Denis Pellerin, in this interview with BBC Wales Radio host Wynne Evans (with the topic of new album starting at 10:45):
