Universal And Blumhouse Rekindle A Stephen King Classic With A Reboot Of ‘Firestarter’

In the canon of Stephen King adaptations, there’s a handful that many a fan hold close to their heart and for whatever reason – Firestarter is one of those films.  Personally, I was a huge fan of the novel and while I’ve always enjoyed the film – quite frankly it doesn’t rank too high on my personal list of Stephen King films.

I’m in the minority it would seem though as there is a true allegiance amongst those that embrace  Charlie and her ordeal.

So, this weekend is the Overlook Film Festival in Mt Hood Oregon – at the Timberline Lodge where The Shining was shot.  What better place to announce a reboot of a classic King film?

Jason Blum thought the same and used that platform to announce that a remake of Firestarter is in the works and they have chosen their director – Akiva Goldsman.  If you’re a film fan  – you might remember that Mr. Goldsman got himself an Oscar for his work on A Beautiful Mind as a writer.

The writing duties for this Firestarter remake are being handled by Scott Teems.

Hard to believe that the original film hit theaters in 1984 – Drew Barrymore famously portrayed Charlie McGee- our heroine with a flair for the pyrokinetic, no word on who might portray Charlie this time around but – all in good time.  For now, let’s all just bask in the joy that Charlie will be throwing those amazing fire meteors once again.  Keep it locked right here at Revolting Horror  – as this one progresses through production, I’ll keep you updated.
