Aaaaaah summer. Festivals rock local stages and local bands play outdoor venues while the sun sets. There is no season quite like the scorcher that can be summer, and all of this sunshine has us thinkin’ top ten lists, baby! What is better than a little playlist to fuel those days by the pool while Sun-In bleaches out your roots, the sun crisps your skin through the layers of tanning oil, and a cocktail keeps your whistle wet. This man of few words didn’t need to get us swaying in our swimsuits with lyrics. Oh, no. Joe sent us swinging and sippin’ by the seashore with his sweet melodies. Whenever this song comes on, the top goes down (or comes off for some of us), and the mood is right for some summer fun!
Centerfield – John Fogerty
Summertime means baseball season, and there’s nothing like the delicious aroma of hot dogs, expensive beers, and the cheers of the crowd to get us in the summer mood. John Fogerty sent us from first base all the way home with this hit, and it’s one that remains a summertime classic with us.
DoinTime – Sublime
I mean, I could sun my cheeks to any song by Sublime; however, “Doin Time” is an unequivocal song that stimulates the melatonin in my skin, and the rock/dub sensibility. That slow swagger coming from our speakers just sends us right into summertime heaven…
All Summer Long – Kid Rock
Kid Rock’s “All Summer Long” off his album Rock and Roll Jesus gives us a nice song to sit back, raise our sweet cheeks to the sky, and absorb those rays…all summer long. I think of being on the water on a boat, pouring myself a nice cold one, wind blowing through my hair, and rope swings into the cool crisp water to cool off my sun-scorched sun. You can try different things, or smoke funny things, but one thing you can’t deny: this song is a summer hit to keep you rockin’ till the campfire goes out.
California Sun – The Ramones
Oh yes, even those punk kids get their summer on… and there is no better place to raise the cheeks for tanning than under the California Sun! Leave it to the iconic Ramones to deliver us a high-energy, pulse driven beat to kick up our heels and dance under any warm summer sun.
Island in the Sun – Weezer
Weezer, in their true kick-back vibe, chills us out all a little bit with “Island in the Sun”. It’s the perfect song to lay back on your lounge chair, or dip your toes in the pool to; you’re not going anywhere fast with this chill hit.

Depending on where you’re living, summer can typically be, at some points, a very hot season. And this KISS cut reminds us of exactly how hot it can be. What could be better than sunning your cheeks with the boys from KISS? I mean, really? Grab a cool glass of ice water, stick some ice down your bathing suit, whatever you have to do to bring yourself some sweet relief under the sun when it gets to be, truly, hotter than hell.
