10 Questions with Keith Nelson of Buckcherry
We asked ten quick questions of Keith Nelson (lead and rhythm guitar/backing vocalist) right before Louder Than Life, and here’s what he had to say…
Since this is the first Louder Than Life Festival do you have any idea as to what to expect?
In this game we have learned to expect the unexpected.
Are you guys looking forward to playing Louder Than Life and which band are you most excited about playing with?
Sharing a bill with Judas Priest, how rad is that?
The release of your new EP, Fuck, just came out in August and subsequently will coincide with the Louder Than Life Festival. Does this mean we can expect to hear plenty of your new songs?
We have been incorporating three or four songs off of the new EP. We change the set list up every night, so I’m sure you’ll be hearing some new music!
You raged at Download this year, how was the crowd for you?
The Download Festival is always a lot of fun for us. We get to see a lot of different bands, hang out with old friends, and the crowd is always spectacular.
Which event is more fun for you as a band: Download or Rockstar Uproar?
They are two completely different type of events. Download is a once a year – a very special event, while the Rockstar Uproar Tour is a moving caravan of bands over two months. They both have proven to be very rewarding experiences.
How do you spend your time as a band when you’re not on tour?
We are always doing something, whether it’s writing new music or recording. Having our own studio makes it nice. There’s always somewhere to go and something to do once you get there.
What’s the most difficult thing to deal with when on tour?
Being away from family and friends is by far the most difficult thing about being on tour.

uckcherry has a huge and extremely loyal fan base. Are there any fans that have stood out to you over the years?
We have some fans that have actually become our friends – from all over the globe: Europe, South America, Canada, and of course, the United States. As far as the fans that stand out, well, there’s always a few fans that are willing to do pretty outrageous things to say hello to us.
We loved your 2013 album, Confessions, which is one of the most personal albums Buckcherry has ever done. What was the inspiration that went into creating it, particularly the lyrics?
Josh drew on personal experience and events in his childhood.
Arguably your biggest songs have been “Sorry” and “Crazy Bitch.” Do you feel these songs’ popularity have raised Buckcherry up in the last few years or have perhaps set a standard that’s proven difficult for you to meet?
They’ve definitely elevated the band and introduced us to a whole new audience. The only standard we hold ourselves to is making honest music.
Which song from any of your albums would you say is your absolute favorite?
That changes every day. Today my favorite song to play is “Somebody Fucked with Me” off of our new EP.
