INDIE BAND OF THE WEEK – THE SUITZ

Who are you and what is your role in the band?

I’m Jack Pawt, I sing the songs in The Suitz

How did the band get started?

One day we all woke up in the same dumpster and decided to just roll with it.

Who are your influences and how do they play a role in your sound?

The biggest influence on us is The Venetia Fair. They were probably the hardest working band I’d ever seen and they got me obsessed with mustering as much gusto into every song as humanly possible. They also set the bar pretty high for being as creative as possible with dynamics and structure, while always circling back to a poppy chorus. That formula really gets my goose in the good way, it’s everything I want from a song wrapped up in a neat little package. Lastly, they had a theatrical element that we share. Storytelling in music is amazing, but story showing through a high energy live show; I think that’s the peak of artistry in music.

What has been your most meaningful experience being in this band so far?

That one time I farted at IHOP.

Favorite memory from a show you’ve played or a place you’ve travelled?

My favorite show we’ve played was at Altport in Bridgeport. It was one of our first gigs with this lineup, we had no one on bass, and it was a DIY show. A dingy little living room in a super old building that was packed out with 150 people all shoulder to shoulder slamming pbr. All the bands we played with were so damn good, but mostly I loved the camaraderie. Playing real venues can often feel hollow because the sound guy doesn’t give a shit, everyone’s just working and trying to make a buck, the crowd is often bar-goers and not music lovers, and bands with egos and shallow demeanors play lots of the bigger venues. Our experience playing the DIY scene was fucking incredible because it was nothing like that. Everyone there had given their whole heart to music, every band was humble and genuine, we all shared a hell of an experience together that night. I really felt like every single person there was my friend by the end of the night. That genuine sense of community is hard to find.

What do you hope to accomplish with your music?

Personally my goal with all of this is to put myself through as much shit as possible to feel alive and inspire people to get the most out of life by giving everything they have and then some. I wanna spark ya, spin ya, flip your On Switch, put some stars in your eyes, and shock ya back to life.

Something about you that no one knows?

We like to play this sadistic game where we hide around corners and scare the living fuck out of Quentin, our drummer.

What is next for the band?

The next big goal is to release a full length album next summer and tour later this Fall.

Anything else you want to add?

We released our new single “Energy” in September following our release show at Reggie’s Rock Club in Chicago. Also, Reverbnation has announced they’re going to feature “Energy” on their homepage for a week in March!
