Danny Worsnop is one of those artists who live life to the fullest and later put down in music and lyrics their feelings, emotions, and experience. His debut solo album is exactly all of that. The former Asking Alexandria frontman released on February 17, via Earache Records, his first full-length album with the title The Long Road Home consisting of 12 tracks, all based in his way turbulent past.
At the very young age of 26, this British-born lad had to face more than others will deal with in their entire life. His hard drinking lifestyle caused him not once, but three times to be homeless, while he went to the rehab twice and hospitalized numerous times. The Long Road Home is not just another album, it’s a way for him to feel cleansed again. It’s cathartic.
The now Nashville, Tennessee, based musician wrote an album full of raw emotion with tracks that will get stuck in your mind for years. Danny’s bluesy, country/rock songs are the best way to tell his life’s story, while his bright voice – a great inheritance from the metal music scene he previously endorsed – make each and every one of the songs special in its own way.
For some, hitting rock bottom would be hard to come back to the light. For Danny though, it brought him his opening song “Prozac”. It’s a melancholic song, like most in this album, a beautiful country ballad. My personal favorite though is “I Got Bones”, the 6th track in the album, a rock song with great lyrics and amazing rhythm combined with Danny’s lovely sobering voice make this song a perfect radio hit. On the other side, we got “Mexico” and “The Man” two up-beat songs that you just wanna dance with.
With this album, Danny Worsnop proves that he can do much more than we thought. He made a 180 turn, and from his metal past he now delivers a country style album to mark his new musical life. If country is your music, The Long Road Home should definitely be in your collection. Plus, if you’re planning a road trip, don’t forget to have these songs on your playlist.
