As most of our readers know, RockRevolt has a love affair with music. We love it even more when that music is earth shatteringly wonderful, as it is in the case of Owl. Featuring The Cult's Chris Wyse on bass and vocals, Dan Dinsmore on drums, and Jason Achilles Mezilis on guitar, Owl explores spaces and nuances often ignored by other artists. They pull in musical elements that hit effectively, but also bring to light the talent and passion that lies at the core of this trio. Owl is raw, unbridled, and because of the unmistakable skill of its members, their execution and delivery is immaculate. If you want to find true music, this is where you will find it. Read on to see the intriguing conversation we had with Chris, in which we touch on many subjects, from the deep to superficial, and just enjoy picking at the mind of a modern musical master.
Here in the U.S., when the word Avatar is mentioned, I think it would be safe to say that most people would think of the James Cameron movie with all the blue creatures running around. Well, there's a group of five guys from Gothenburg, Sweden who are making a name for themselves by running around and rocking out on stage and catching the attention of lots of metal fans here in the U.S. In case you were wondering, these five metal heads from Sweden are not blue. They have been building a huge following overseas for over ten years and now it's time for them to conquer the U.S.
There are some who say that James Michael has the musical Midas touch. It seems that just about everything that he touches as of late turns into gold. He's penned hit songs for Kelly Clarkson, Halestorm, Meatloaf, Deana Carter and many more. He's also a skilled multi-tasker as his production duties resume includes such artists as Papa Roach and James Durbin. Oh yeah, he also double dips with those duties in his band SIXX:A.M..
A Sound of Thunder seemingly came out of nowhere in 2012 with their album Out of the Darkness: an album that was highly praised by critics and fans alike. It was a musical kaleidoscope containing shades of Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden and Warlock. To tide fans over while working on their follow-up album, the band released an EP entitled Queen of Hell. That just intensified the anticipation for that follow-up album. Well, that wait is almost over. The band is prepared to unleash the next chapter in the story of A Sound of Thunder.
Singers come a dime a dozen, or at least that's how the saying goes, but every now and then one comes along with a voice that truly stands out. That definitely holds true for Cinderella front man Tom Keifer. He stood out in the 80s music scene by his gritty and growling type of vocals. He helped Cinderella climb to the top of musical ladder of success with platinum albums, sold-out tours, and plenty of memorable hits. They were a true success story in the soon to be over-saturated 80s metal landscape.

It's that time again! Hell yes it is! It's that time of week in which we announce our Indie Band of the Week. This week, we selected a crazy awesome indie band called Death Valley High. With ambition and desire abundant, these guys take indie metal to another level. Their album, Doom, in Full Bloom has inspired a new subgenre of rock dubbed "Doom Pop". Pioneering this sound, they are currently touring with a passion, kicking ass and taking names, as well as promoting the shit out of their latest and greatest, Positive Euth, coming out June 4th. Read on as we picked the brains of Reyka, lead singer, for more information on this band we should definitely be keeping an eye open for! They are aptly and appropriately appointed RockRevolt Magazine's Indie Band of the Week.
In the latest issue of RockRevolt Magazine, we included our first movie review for Detention of the Dead. With the movie coming out shortly (on demand on June 18th, and in select theaters on June 28th), we had to dig further and deeper. Per a post on the Detention of the Dead's Facebook page, "Open PUS OOZING SORES and a LUST for fresh meat? YES!!!" With promises such as these, how could we NOT follow up with the film's director, Alex Craig Mann? The film delivered sufficient gore filled morsels of horror to induce horror fanatic wet dreams; however, we wanted to know MORE about what was going on behind the camera and get to know who could deliver such succulent teenage zombie pleasure. And a pleasure it was to speak to the affable Alex Craig Mann!
Per their Facebook page bio "Some roots never die, no matter how they are cut." There has never been a statement that rings so true. This band, Stardog Champion, features members from Breaking Benjamin, Lifer and The Drama Club. Comprised of Aaron Fink, Mark James, Josh Karis, and Nick Coyle, Stardog Champion are no strangers to this fickle music business. They've been here. They live it. They've been in the thick of it. Now, they have regrouped and made a new band, by piecing together their cumulative years of talent to make Stardog Champion. Because of their perseverance, their drive and passion, regardless of their past, they are going to take it to the next level, all whilst boasting an independent status. Oh – and did I mention they rock?! They have therefore been nominated this week's RockRevolt Indie Band of the Week.
