The band featuring long-time Alice Cooper bassist, Chuck Garric, Beasto Blanco, just released their sophomore self-titled record on November 25th via Rat Pak Records. The follow up to Live Fast, Die Loud, was produced by Ryan Greene (Alice Cooper, Lita Ford, Mr. Big) and features 12 tracks including an energized version of Cooper’s “Feed My Frankenstein”. With endorsements by A-list actor and musician Johnny Depp, Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain and producer Bob Ezrin, to name a few, that in itself should be enough to tell you this is a damn good record.
Consisting of Chris Latham (guitar), Jan LeGrow (bass), Tim Husung (drums), Calico Cooper (vocals) and Garric (vocals/guitar), Beasto Blanco is heavily influenced by the likes of bands such as Motorhead and White Zombie with the later really shining through; in fact, if Zombie produced a spawn this is exactly what it would sound like especially in terms of vocals, which isn’t a bad thing. Musically Beasto blends heavy riffs, a strong thunderous bass, melodic choruses infused with electronic elements. Adding the supporting vocals of Alice Cooper’s daughter, Calico, gives Beasto Blanco a flavor of its own.
If you are a fan of Zombie, you will undoubtedly love this record. Start to finish it’s a powerful composition that absolutely kicks ass. Not being exposed to their debut album I didn’t know what to expect before hitting play and truthfully I wasn’t expecting much, I can tell you I was completely wrong. As Garric states, “I’m very proud of this release, this showcases the band as a musical force,” and I couldn’t agree more. Beasto Blanco’s latest effort is definitely worth picking up. To get a taste of the record check out “Feed My Frankenstein” or my pick for top track off of the album, “Dark Matter”. And look for Beasto Blanco on tour now.
