Per Wikipedia, your last DVD was almost 10 years ago: Blood Puke Salvation.
Will you be putting out another one?
I don’t know. I think everyone can get everything they need on YouTube. So I
don’t know if there’s any reason to do a DVD these days. Maybe we’ll do one for
the future to do something different, more than just record a live show or two,
and do something with more feeling. We’ve had some ideas, but it’s nothing in
process right now.
I read that you changed to Century Media right before Serpent Sermon, and
you stayed on with them for this album. What do you feel a label needs to do to
get you to stay with them and what are some things that would make you leave
one?
I like to work with labels that are dedicated and work hard. I really don’t
interfere with them. If I’m on a label in which I can see them working, I leave
it up to them. It should be up to the label to do the outmost to spread our
gospels, you know what I mean? Century Media is a strong label and they
know how to take care of a band like us. I don’t interfere with it and they don’t
interfere with us, working with music and lyrics. It’s a win-win situation. They
do their job and we do ours. As long as everything works, we’ll stay. You never
know for the future, but they are strong and we feel on top as well, so it’s a good
combination.
Tell me about your own Blood Dawn Productions.
I’ve had the label since the year 2000. We still are on Blood Dawn Productions,
and we license our albums to any label we will work with at the time being.
We are still more or less on Blood Dawn Productions, but marketed and
distributed through Century Media.
Where will you all be playing next?
We’ve already started the touring process for the new album. We started out in
Australia and Japan, New Zealand in January. Now we are back home, rehearsing
and preparing. We’re going out and doing Europe in two parts in February until
April. We’re doing like 40 dates in Europe. After that were going down to South
America for a three-week tour and then we will be headed up to do the summer
festivals in Europe. In September were heading out to do Eastern Europe for
three weeks. After that we shall see. Those are the immediate plans we have right
now.
What does downtime look like?
The first thing I think about when I wake up is something related to music:
lyrics or something band related. When I don’t do that, I do what comes
naturally in life. I go fishing and hunting. Those are things that I do to keep
calm! (laughs) Wildlife and outdoor life, things like that. Playing hockey. Those
are the things I enjoy doing.
You are an outdoorsy kind of guy.
Yeah. That’s what I really appreciate in life, especially when you’re on the
road a lot, and you are constantly around people. Even if I go hunting, I don’t
necessarily have to be there killing something. It’s great to be out in the wild.
