up being nine months, and I always gain exactly 8 pounds. As soon as the album is done,
the weight just drops off. It’s like an invisible baby. It’s the weirdest thing! I can’t explain it!
(laughs) It’s been happening as long as I can remember!
That’s weird. It’s cool, but gross at the same time.
It’s creepy and fascinating! (laughs)
That it is! I understand that “Clots” has a very personal story to it, involving
the removal of a tumor. How did you first realize that you had a tumor, and
WOW…how did you find time to sit down long enough for it to be removed
and to heal?
All scheduling. I was bleeding for about five years. I would go to the doctor
and say, “Doc, I’m pissing blood.” They would say, “You are getting older.
It’s your prostate. Go away.” Finally, after five years, we went in with a
camera crew, a bunch of machines, looked around, and found a bleeding
tumor. I was like, “Ok. I have to go on tour in three days for two months.”
So we figured it all out. I hit the road for two months. Came back, went
to NAMM, did The Metal Show, and the next morning I went in for
surgery. I had three weeks to recuperate, and just enough time to get
on a boat and do a progressive metal at sea cruise with Tony Harnell.
Right after that, a week later, I was back on the road in South America.
And THEN started recording the album, finally.
Busy busy! I’d like to know a little more about “Women Rule The
World”. I know that the statement is a fact, but I want to know how
you came to that realization, and how you wrote a song to celebrate
the fact.
You know, as men, we act like fools with the things that we do to
compete and impress and try to conquer, and everything we do.
I thought about how everyone says “it’s a man’s world”, but really
everything we do is in a woman’s matrix.
You’re living on our time.
Yeah. I’m good with that. I kind of like it. It’s fun.
We know what we are doing.
Yeah. You let us think we are doing all this stuff. Like Ralph Cramden:
“King of the Castle” kind of a thing. That was THE best show. It never
stops being funny, no matter how much you watch it.
Let’s talk about “Little Brother Is Watching”. I read it was inspired
by Orwell’s 1984, and that “We the people, ‘little Brother,’ are the
surveillance of the government, the police, each other, and ourselves.”
With that in mind, I’d like to get your opinion on Social Media and
how it fits into this paradigm.
It’s all part of it. It’s the written version of that. Social Media! That has
become the way we communicate with each other. Sadly, it’s also the
way we don’t communicate with each other. When you don’t have face-
to-face, you don’t have accountability. You don’t have thoughtfulness.
You don’t have all the things that matter in communication. People have
