SHOW REVIEW AND PHOTOS: TesseracT

TesseracT with Skyharbor, Erra, and The Contortionist

Things took a metaphysical turn at the Hawthorne Theatre when progressive metal band TesseracT came to town for their “Polaris” tour.  Supporting acts included Skyharbor, Erra, and The Contortionist.  TesseracT opened their set with Dystopia.  Their signature chunky bass sound was quite palpable.  Daniel Tompkins has retaken the microphone for TesseracT and has passed off his lead singing duties in Skyharbor to the very capable Eric Emery.  The Portland audience was quite happy to see him back.  Vocally, the songs from the Polaris album are a bit of a departure from their work preceeding it.  In my opinion, the clean vocals give the songs a bit more depth and complexity that really only existed instrumentally in their earlier work.  The song arrangement for the show echoed the melodies and flow you hear on their recordings.  Much praise for their song selection and arrangement.  My favorite song performance for the show would have to be Deception.  The drum work on Deception is just sick!
