MOTIONLESS IN WHITE LIVE

Los Angeles was graced with an explosive, theatrical, and momentous performance that is Motionless in White. Arguably one of the most popular act in this day and age, Motionless in White has been captivating fans for years with their powerful music and brilliant lyrics. Hailing from Scranton, Pennsylvania, this musical endeavor has come a very long way in their impressive career. With the band’s most recent release, Graveyard Shift, Motionless in White set off on an extensive tour to bring the album to life on stage. On September 30th, The Novo in Downtown Los Angeles (formerly Club Nokia) welcomed the musical act to give the fans a night to remember forever.

The stage was adorned with various horror and gothic props, akin to the album’s title. This recreation of a graveyard scene gave the performance a fantastic setting, almost like seeing a music video in real time. But the real aesthetic treat came from the band’s theatrical choreography for each song, featuring their two touring performers: Gaiapatra and Kylie Devyn. The musicians themselves, Chris Motionless (vocals), Ricky Horror (guitar), Ryan Sitkowski (guitar), Ghost (bass), and Vinny Mauro (drums), have become rock icons in their own right- with years of skill and talent being evident in the impressive live performance. The audience certainly drove this point, with hundreds and hundreds of adoring fans calling out the band’s name, a dedication that isn’t easily found. It is clear to see that the music resonates with the listeners on a very deep level, as wandering the crowd with my camera allowed me to catch glimpses of how emotional the fans got with certain songs.

The set list ran through fan favorites and many hits off of the newest record. “Necessary Evil” was possibly one of the most eye-catching songs of the night, with absolutely insane pyro. From fire bursting and framing the stage brilliantly, to Giapatra and Kylie Devyn shooting up incredibly high sparks from their grinding performance, the night was electrified by these intense effects. The live imagining of the song most certainly tied in with the music video. Other fun stage elements included water guns, Motionless in White flags, a large walking zombie prop, dancing, and of course, the grand finale confetti that showered the crowd.

Each band member knows exactly how to present to the crowd, taking hold of the audience’s attention and never letting go. Chris Motionless has some of the most impressive fan engagement in his performance I’ve seen in many years, as he engaged directly with the crowd in front of him. Often reaching over to them, speaking to them, and riling up the fans, it is of no wonder that everyone leaves a Motionless in White concert in the most excited mood. Guitarist Ricky Horror romanced his side of the stage, with extraordinary musicianship and epic head banging. Ryan Sitkowski had just as good a time on his side of the stage, constantly coming up close to the audience and posing grandly with his stunning guitar. Bassist Ghost, with his recognizable and very cool stage attire on every tour, embodies whichever character he is influenced by. A true eye-catching individual, made only more influential by his playing. Drummer Vinny Mauro kept the beat going and the energy flowing with his fast-paced and energetic performance.

It would, in my genuine opinion, be most regrettable to miss this tour when it comes through your town!
