INDIE BAND OF THE WEEK – LEAVING EDEN

Leaving EdenLeaving Eden is an experimental band from Boston, Massachusetts. Their sound knows no bounds and it is difficult to type them into a category. Their music is best experienced how music is supposed to be enjoyed: LIVE. They have toured America, Canada, and England and have toured with Lacuna Coil, In This Moment, Disturbed, and Tremonti among so many more. Now they can add RockRevolt’s Indie Band of the Week to that list. Enjoy!

Who are you and what is your role in the band?

I am Eric Gynan Guitar/Vocals Song writer

How did the band get started?

Myself and Eve (Lead Singer) wanted to change it up a little creating music outside the box.

What does the name mean?

“Leaving Eden” The thought that this planet represents Eden and it’s worldly philosophies. It’s corrupt, full of deception, power and greed. So thus, we are leaving “Eden”. Not physically, but philosophically.

Who are your influences and how do they play a role in your sound?

Influences include but not limited to [laughs], Foremost, we never get trapped in a box, therefore our influences are ever changing always listening to what’s out there now. As far as past influences I’d have to say for me Ozzy and Sabbath, Richie Blackmore and Zeppelin. So many other great artists like Shinedown, Disturbed, Dimebag, Seether, Avenged Sevenfold, all of whom which we’ve had the pleasure to share the stage with.

What has been your most meaningful experience being in this band so far?

I Believe doing benefit concerts for for people in need. It’s so meaningful and I say this because once, there was a little girl whom had cancer. We were trying to help by playing for an event to raise money for her. Scheduling was difficult at the time but we managed and when we tried to confirm a date, she died. It broke my heart. Another benefit we  played the woman passed away the night before, again heart breaking so when we get these calls it reminds us that these are real human lives we are helping and some are more desperate than we could ever imagine. I take our benefit concerts very seriously. Sorry to bring ya down here. Also when touring we get to meet people we would have never met, make new meaningful relationships all over the world.

Favorite memory from a show you’ve played or a place you’ve travelled?

Well when we went to UK, we’re were 10 min away from Stonehenge, and the memory I don’t have is going there because we didn’t. Lol. Can you believe it? We were too busy, had a schedule to keep. I still kick myself in the ass for that! But seriously, for some reason we’ve been so fortunate to have shared the stage with so many of our rock star Idols. Playing with Dimebag, Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio before they sadly passed was surreal. I’d have to say being in the right place at the right time, we were asked to play Woodstock, their anniversary. So coming full circle which by the way is always so very important, when anything comes full circle, it simply means it begins all over again, as I ramble on, we got to hang out, even dine with Jeffersin Starship, 10 years after, Janis Joppilins band Big brother and the holding company, Country Joe, etc.  agin, very surreal.

What do you hope to accomplish with your music?

I just want to sing my songs and be free!!! Hope that someone will listen.

Something about you that no one knows?

I’ve had the honor of helping disabled people live their lives.

What is next for the band?

We are heading to Chicago to record with Record Producer Johnny K (Disturbed, Pop Evil, 3 doors down, Staind,  Finger 11) and release on radio. That’s the plan.

Anything else you want to add?

A pleasure interviewing and have a blast!
