INDIE BAND OF THE WEEK: DEFY TOLERANCE

Defy tolerance - indie band of the week - ibotw - bannerWhen it comes to Indie bands, our tastes are IMPECCABLE! In light of the Justin Bieber shenanigans earlier this week, we had to whet our whistles with only something that could remove that nasty flavor from our mouths. THANK GOD for Defy Tolerance. These guys did it, and did it WELL!  To have a band with such an amazing sound, great look, amazing work ethic, and with a philanthropic vein intact, we are proud to unleash our INDIE BAND OF THE WEEK:  Defy Tolerance!!!

Hailing straight from Arizona, our Indie Band of the Week, Defy Tolerance, infiltrates your entire system, mind, body, and soul from the first listen. Their sound is, well, SOUND! With a sound so polished and modern, you can’t help but take notice, and NOTICE WE GAVE THEM! They are deliciously heavy, and their guitar riffs are in your face, forcing you to beg for more.

From headlining shows benefiting Breast Cancer (TONIGHT they are doing a cancer benefit show at the Goathead Saloon, and they are auctioning off a variety of signed items to help fight breast cancer…FUCK YOU CANCER!), to playing with national touring acts, Defy Tolerance is a band who simply refuses to quit. In the short three years they have been together, this hard working band has released several music videos, a full length album, and has racked up a following any band would kill to have. Between the passion, dedication, and creativity displayed by Defy Tolerance, it is not surprising they have been selected to be Rock Revolt Magazine’s Indie Band of the Week. This is a band you will be hearing a lot about in the future, and before long fans everywhere will be chanting their name as they take the stage, no matter what part of the world they are in.

One cannot simply define Defy Tolerance easily.  Their boundary pushing solid rock core constantly brings you to a new place you never would thought to have existed. Each song on their new album Stop The Bleeding will immediately capture your interest, and refuses to let it go before it masterfully comes to an end, creating the perfect closure to the many emotions one feels while listening to this album.

The first song on Stop the Bleeding, “Ball and Chain”, stands out right away. I was addicted to what I was hearing immediately and knew I wanted more. The ball and chain represents my focus, refusing to let it go anywhere. As an ode to addiction, I found it ironic that an addiction of my own was forming, and my drug of choice:  Defy Tolerance.

defy tolerance - stop the bleeding - albumWhen the first track ended, I knew I needed more and would stop at nothing to get it. Each boundary pushing track that followed opened my mind to new emotions that a psychologist couldn’t even explain. From ballad to all out debauchery, Stop the Bleeding has something for everybody. It takes the time to slow down, jam an acoustic guitar here and there, but wastes no time kicking your ass with an in-your-face madness that will never fail to have your blood pumping through your veins at an arduous rate.

Vocalist Freddy Kilo has a massive voice, and he is not afraid to use it. His lyrics are a weapon as he stands against an army of addiction, reflection of loneliness, and a dream he will absolutely refuses to let go of. Shredding on the lead guitar, guitarist Brian Miller’s solos are constantly speaking directly to the soul, rather than wasting interest with meaningless squander.
