The Novo in Los Angeles was host to quite the musical extravaganza on Friday the 15th of September. Setting the stage for a melodic fan’s dream, the evening presented the incredible Epica, marvelous Lacuna Coil, and brutal Insomnium. A lineup worthy of the hundreds of fans that showed!
EPICA
Celebrating the release of their most recent EP, The Solace System, this tour features brand new never-before-played music from Epica. A perfect addition to last year’s full-length album release, The Holographic Principle, the band continues this universe and cosmic theme with six new tracks. With the stage lighting perfectly complimenting the world that Epica has created, this symphonic metal act captivated the audience. With their extremely skilled playing, to vocals that are even more powerful live than they are recorded, every single crowd member most definitely had the night of their lives. Each band mate’s personalities shone as bright as the lights behind them, and it was easy to get swept away into the story that is Epica.

LACUNA COIL
Welcoming fans into their sanatorium, Italian act Lacuna Coil transformed the stage into a theatrical performance perfectly aligned with their latest album Delirium. With all of the stage members painted and dressed as if having spent considerable time institutionalized, the performance was quite a spectacle! The band brought a considerable amount of energy into their music, with fans all eagerly jumping and moshing to the music. The set list ranged from classic Lacuna Coil fan favorites, such as Our Truth, to hit songs from the most recent release- even touching on very sentimental music to frontwoman Cristina Scabbia. With a message that was both encouraging and powerful, fans were left with the same motivation to achieve their goals as Lacuna Coil had to reach music fame (as will be revealed in a future biographical book about the band).

INSOMNIUM
Finnish melodic death metal band Insomnium added an excellent mix to this tour’s lineup, getting the crowd riled before Lacuna Coil and Epica’s performances. Many metal fans hold Finland to high honors in regards to music, and there is certainly a reason for this! So many excellent artists come from there, and Insomnium is no exception. Having become a household name amongst the melodic deathsters, Insomnium is exceptionally skilled both on stage and through recording. The setlist went from one powerful track to the next, never skipping a beat!
