ALBUM REVIEW: IX – CORROSION OF CONFORMITY

IX Album coverAlbum Title: IX
Album Artist: Corrosion of Conformity
Release Date: 24 June 2014
Recording Company: Candlelight Records
Review By: Britt Summerlin

During the early 1980’s in Raleigh, North Carolina, three teenagers created a band that would go on to capture the ears of so many counter culture metal fans. Corrosion of Conformity has been rocking for over 3 decades, with the founding members: Woodroe Weatherman, Mike Dean, and Reed Mullin still going strong. Corrosion of Conformity has continually evolved their brand of music into their own mesh of heavy metal/hardcore punk/thrash crossover.

Just back from their successful European tour, the band is currently preparing for the upcoming New Zealand/Australia tour following the current release of their ninth album, aptly titled “IX” For Corrosion of Conformity’s die-hard fans , this album will not disappoint. “IX” is raw, abrasive and is an overall head banger’s delight.

“Brand New Sleep”- imposing guitar riffs and driving drum beats make this a thunderous listen, with a touch of Black Sabbath technique mixed in. “Brand New Sleep” is the perfect choice for the album opener—leading with the kind of raw energy that COC fans have loved for years.

“On Your Way”- Bursting with chaos and high adrenaline, this rocker still managers to convey a sense of optimism.

“Interlude” – A serious departure from their usual heavy style, “Interlude” showcases a gentle guitar solo by Woodroe Weatherman, truly an interlude in this wall of sound.

Altogether, this album contains the vital elements to satisfy the most fervid Corrosion of Conformity fan. I give “IX” 3 ear splitting skulls.
