Seether does not “Let Down” Kansas City on their Poison the Parish tour

The Uptown Theater has seen a resurgence of great shows in 2017 and August 8th 2017 was no different when Seether rolled into town with the Poison the Parish the tour.  Accompanying Seether on their tour to support their latest release Poison the Parish was Big Story and Letters From the fire.

The rumor is that things are bigger in Texas, well the Dallas five piece band Big Story are trying to live up to that label.  Opening the night on the Uptown stage in front of a Kansas City crowd Big Story came out with a sound that was tight, clean and up tempo.  They were the perfect tune up to get everyone ready to experience a night of great live music.

Letters From The Fire hailing from the Bay Area kept the machine rolling playing music from their latest release Worth The Pain.  There was a lot of buzz before the show about Letters From The Fire.  A lot of the Kansas City crowd had heard of them but not heard them.  Their high energy and solid sound helped garner them a lot of new fans that night as the buzz turned into excitement that what they had heard had lived up to the expectations they had going into it.

If you are familiar with a Seether show you are aware of two things, 1.  It will be a dark., ominous setting and 2.  Its going to be song after song of nothing but the best Seether has to offer.  Tuesday the 8th of August was no different for the Uptown Theater crowd.  Aww, but there was a difference to this Seether set.  The stage seemed just a bit smaller due to the addition of a new touring mate for this round of touring.  Sevendust Clint Lowery has been on the road this summer adding his guitar skills to the three-piece band that we are all used to seeing.  The addition was quite noticeable right out of the gate, but really was in the forefront when “Country Song” started to pour out of the sound system.  No longer was Dale Stewart standing behind an acoustic on a stand, no, the opening riff was now being heard coming through the amps of an electric guitar strapped to Clint.  It brought a different feel to the song that many had never experienced.  A new addition to the set this run is the cover of “Black Honey” by Thrice, which they have been trading off back and forth with “Careless Whisper.”  One of the most common thoughts from everyone that night that I have heard since the show was how good they sound, even people commenting on Facebook live videos have complimented how great they were and we all know most FB live videos are grainy videos of nothing but static sounding garbage.  It was true though, Seether sounded as if you were listening to them straight from an album being played through the best sound system money can buy.  And here’s the thing, they always sound good, so I am not sure if it is the addition of Mr. Lowery on this run or if like a fine wine they are just getting better with age but Seether, as usual, did not disappoint.

And on a closing note, Shaun, what happened to your other shoe???
