Proclaimed industrial metal gods Psyclon Nine returned to the famous Los Angeles streets during their Tour of the Worm endeavor, promoting the band’s newest release “Icon of the Adversary.” An eminently energetic and wild performance, Psyclon Nine did not hold back Saturday night as goth club Bar Sinister welcomed the metal act. With a sui generis history in music and a reputation that spreads their name far and wide, the venue was absolutely jam-packed for the performance, with not a single person upset at becoming a sardine in order to catch a glimpse of the musicians.
The set list was heavier and far more metal oriented than previous tours, playing songs the fans were dying for, as well as new material from “Icon of the Adversary.” The audience was mesmerized by the show, enjoying each powerful melody as it came. At one point, the illustrious and demure venue transformed into a metal head haven, with mosh pits and wild antics spewing at every corner. The pit did get rather rowdy, with the band visibly gleeful over their impact on the fans below.
Front man Nero Bellum is one heck’ of a performer, you could say. The man didn’t slow down for a single moment, consistently amping up for each and every song. His brilliant crowd interaction is worth noting, as he engaged with the audience consistently and had a knack of bending them to his will. On either side played Rotny and Sevin, an edgy duo that embraced the dark aesthetic aptly. Rotny’s headbanging and guitar weilding skills were immensely impressive, and Sevin’s talent with the keyboard drove the crowd mad. Drummer Jon Siren joined the act on this tour for the first time since 2013, a reunion of sorts! Known for his fast, skilled, and powerful performance, Jon did not repress any of his energy during the set.
