Ministry hits Kansas City for the first time and leave the fans ready for their return

Friday, October 27th, The Uptown Theater played host to the one and only Ministry for the very first time, according to Ministry front man Al Jourgensen.  Opening the night was a site I have never seen before and honestly, I can’t really say I have seen anything this time.  Death Grips, an experimental hip hop group from Cali, took the stage in pitch black nothingness.  As the music started, what can be best described as green laser pointers attached to hands and microphones, were the only light to be seen.  It was definitely an experience to behold; although, personally I really did not know what to make of it.  The music was great but there was just something about not being able to see a thing, and I mean not a thing, that left a piece of it out for me when I go to a live show; but hey, it’s all about the experience and the experience was good.

Closing out the night on this rare two band set list were the industrial metal giants better known as Ministry.  If you looked up evolution in the dictionary there should be a picture of Al Jourgensen right there.  When you talk about Ministry you talk about eras in time.  They have never been the band that has stuck to one style as they have seemed to enjoy reinventing themselves and put out that feel that is right to them and that is never a bad thing.  Ministry is out in support of their upcoming album release “AmeriKKKant” that will release sometime in March of 2018.   Nothing like a little pre-tour to get the juices flowing for new music. On both sides of the stage were what appeared to be large inflatable ducks adorned with a Donald Trump hair piece with a crossed out swastika on their chest.  As Ministry played their politically charged set, a projector projected equally politically charged images for the crowd to see and they were both audio and visually pummeled by the massive sounds of Ministry.  It was a show that completely embodied the climate of this country and showed that uniting as a people is how we will and can overcome all obstacles that are in our way.
