Mastodon brings unique music style to the Uptown Theater in Kansas City
April 26, 2017, saw Mastodon and friends make their way to the beautiful Uptown Theater in Kansas City. Opening the night was the three-piece instrumental band, Russian Circles. Heavy guitar, mixed with thunderous bass set the tone while being complimented by a drummer that proved you do not need a 15-piece kit to get the job done. Stepping to the stage next was not just a band but a party. The Eagles of Death Metal, complete with rock’n roll Santa (Dave Catching), brought an energy to the stage the sparked the crowd to get moving. Their hard hitting Rockabilly sound was one that was a perfect mix to the night of fantastic musical exuberance.
Continuing the ongoing theme of the night of unique music talent was the mighty Mastodon. Old school fans knew what they were in for; newbies who have jumped on the boat with the latest album Emperor of Sand, and current hit “Show Yourself” were in for a roller-coaster ride of a night. Bringing the heavy right out of the gate with “Sultan’s Curse,” Mastodon set the tone for their set and never let up making sure to give their fans a taste of all seven albums with their 20-song set. With dates left in the US through May 20th before jumping across the pond and spreading the love until July 8th, there is plenty of time to experience a great night of music all over the world.
