Well coiffed metal loving hooligans at Welcome to RockvilleWorld’s Loudest Month kicked off in its usual bangin’ fashion, shattering last year’s record attendance with over 50 thousand attendees over two days, selling this one out for the third year in a row. Welcome to Rockville rolled in to Jacksonville, Florida on April 30 and rocked us all until May 1st. This is the tour start for such great stops like Carolina Rebellion, Rock on the Range, and Rocklahoma. Legendary performers such as the original Hellbilly himself, Rob Zombie had the crowd in a mosh-induced frenzy. Five Finger Death Punch showed the crowd a ridiculously amazing time. Lamb of God brought their distinct brand of awesome to the stage. Ashes to New had us all aching for more; their music never seems to last long enough for the fans! Disturbed ripped the stage and left the crowd all seeing “The Light”. Shinedown, one of my personal favorites of the weekend, played the hardest I have ever seen them play, leaving it all on the stage. Add in Memphis May Fire, Anthrax, Cypress Hill, Pennywise, Lacey Sturm, Ghost, and a host of other amazingly talented acts, and you’ve got yourself a roster of over 45 bands on four stages over two melt-your-face-off rockin’ days. If that doesn’t say Metal and Rock Awesomeness, I surely don’t know what does.
In addition to kick ass music, festival organizers enhanced the experience with Gourmet Man Food, Tequila World presented by El Jimador, Jack Daniel’s Whiskey Row Experience, Jager Live Lounge, Craft beer selections, and some of the best food trucks in the continent added to the fast-paced, eat while you rock atmosphere. Monster Energy, FYE meet and greets, Keep Golf Metal, and Crazy Dave’s Music Experience rounded out the various activities to keep festival goers engaged, hydrated, and everyone’s bellies full.
Even though the hot Florida sun beat down with its usual fierce intensity, the festival was non stop music and fun. We saw so many great acts, and we met so many amazing people that it was hard not to get swept up in the energy of it all. We even discovered that many fans consider their annual Welcome to Rockville migration as a ‘family’ trip. Many friends who may only see each other once a year from throughout the country attend WTR and spend the entire weekend sharing memories. We found at least one fan who had flown all the way from Massachusetts. “The bond is the music and the lifestyle,” says Christine, the long distance traveler and massive rock fan.
Monster Energy’s Welcome To Rockville producer Danny Wimmer, of Danny Wimmer Presents says, “From its humble beginnings in 2011 as a single day event that drew 7,500, five years later, Rockville has grown into the biggest rock event in the state of Florida. Having over 50,000 attendees from around the world just proves how strong the community of rock fans is.” We can’t agree with you more, Danny!!
