A metal act that has reached a near god-like status, Cradle of Filth has always tackled the dark side humanity, from historical happenings to violent legends and lore. All of which were wrought from the darkest corners of human cognition. The band’s upcoming release, Cryptoriana – The Seductiveness of Decay, is due to hit shelves on September 22, 2017, a highly anticipated date for metal fans all over the world.
“’Cryptoriana’ implies the Victorians’ infatuation with the supernatural, the grave and the fervently ghoulish. The subtitle, ‘The Seductiveness Of Decay’, further cements the attraction to death and the glittering lengthy process of self-annihilation.” Says Cradle of Filth mastermind Dani Filth. Much of Victorian death culture developed out of subconscious reactions to wide-spread death, new scientific discoveries, and the fear of the unknown. These fears and anxieties were reflected in much of the Victorian era, which makes the time a perfect setting for a dark and creepy story.
Senior journalist Anabel DFlux had an enlightening chat with the man himself, delving deep into discussion on how the setting influenced this new release.
