INTERVIEW AND LIVE PICS OF SAINT ASONIA AT ROCK ON THE RANGE 2015

Saint-Asonia-Banner-RockRevolt-RockOnTheRangeIt’s not every day that we get surprised around here, but we in fact were, with the out-of-left-field announcement of the new band, Saint Asonia. First off, the press release came from Sony Music Group (we open those – always), and was followed up with a secondary one-two punch of a lineup consisting of ex-Three Days Grace lead vocalist and guitarist Adam Gontier, Staind guitarist Mike Mushok, Eye Empire bass player Corey Lowery and former Finger Eleven drummer Rich Beddoe. All wrapped up in a bow with a video of their first single, “Better Place” and an invite to their VIP party at Rock On The Range. One listen and we had two words (in many forms): we’re in, fuck yes, this rocks and holy shit!

So that is how we wound up in a tent aflame with liquor, beautiful people, and great music in the middle of a field in Columbus, Ohio the night before Saint Asonia was to perform their first ever live show – in front of tens of thousands of people at Rock On The Range 2015 as the much-secreted “Special Guest” band. We had a chance to catch up with Adam Gontier, Mike Muskok and Corey Lowery for a quick interview to talk about this amazing new collaboration, packed full of the ultimate of consummate musicians – but they aren’t a “supergroup” dammit! Superheros? Maybe.

The one thing that Saint Asonia proved that they are NOT (contrary to the play on words in their name) is “tone deaf” – and they proved it! Saint Asonia gave a truly memory-making  first performance, which was memorialized via broadcast by AXS.TV as the Day Two opener for Rock On the Range. The band performed original new songs, “Better Place”, “Let Me Live My Life” and “Fairytale.” They also slayed some covers of Three Days Grace song “I Hate Everything About You” and Staind’s “Mudshovel.”  The crowd piled in to mainstage and by the end of their five-song set, there were about 50 thousand new SAINT ASONIA fans!
