She Rocks Volume 1 Could be held as a collection of guitar genius to rival co-producer Steve Vai. However, these aren’t just some of the best female guitarists but some of the best guitarists, period. Therefore, the point of this album is to show that women can Rock just as hard as the guys. And, these women rock harder than most. That said, this compilation contains some of the most raw, righteous, and all around groovy riffs from some of the most guitarists of our time. From mellow to Metal, Psychedelic to Blues, this album takes guitar wizardry from spectrum to spectrum.
Kat Dyson has the voice of a Jazz Club vocalist and the guitar skill that stands her as a pier to the likes of Buddy Guy and Dave Alvin. Furthermore, her “U Know What I Like” is the very definition of classic Blues. Her voice contains the timeless manifestation of Soul. And, if your feet aren’t tapping, get to a doctor.
When Lita Ford’s cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Lemon Tree” began to play, I hadn’t even looked at the title. But, I could instantly recognize the song just from the first few notes. I thought to myself, “Gee that sounds like Led Zeppelin.” On top of that, what was even more impressive was that she sounded like Led Zeppelin. Part of the reason for the Led Zeppelin’s backing band was Led Zeppelin. Additionally, she sung Plant’s part alongside Page and Jones. The latter she was rumored to have been asked to replace in the late seventies. Another rumor to think about is the one that Jones, Plant, and Jason Bonham are going to tour again with a new singer. It can be said that Lita Ford would have to make the short list.
Of course, Jennifer Batten gently sneaks her sound through your ears and into the recesses of your mind with peaceful alternative instruments. Additionally, she adds the oh so smooth sound of her guitar. “In the Aftermath” is proof that it takes just as much skill and has just as much power to pay the guitar slow and smooth as it does to just “shred,” as they say.
Yasi Hoffer is one that shreds and quite well. Therefore, “Cosmic Stars” is the best Metal instrumental I’ve heard since “Watch This Dave” by Slash, Duff McKagen, and Matt Sorum. Her guitar ceases to exist outside of reality, and the whole band complements her playing.
In all, every track on this album is worth the buy. Even more so, every artist on the masterpiece collection is worth buy an album from. So, be sure to look for She Rocks Volume 1 on January twentieth of next year.
