She goes by the name of The Fabulous Miss Wendy and she is here to represent. This Hollywood-based rocker might be flying below the radar right now, but it doesn’t take a chemist or a rocket scientist to be able to make the bold prediction that will soon change. With a recently completed, smokin’ hot new album entitled No One Can Stop Me now available, a new distribution deal secured to get the record to the masses and a national tour going coast to coast set to start May 2, the yellow brick road to rock-n-roll stardom starts now for this guitar extraordinaire.
While Miss Wendy is sure to gain attention with a glitzy image and a flair for the dramatic in her videos, it’s her raw, stripped down, good ole’ fashioned rock-n-roll music with the attitude that is the main focus. Possessing crazy good guitar shredding skills along with a focused yet rebellious mind-set are just some of the attributes that separate her from so many other aspiring rock stars competing for your attention today. Check out what Miss Wendy had to say to RockRevolt right before she headed out on tour…
Interview with Miss Wendy:
Rick/RR: Miss Wendy, thank you for checking in with RockRevolt. It’s great to speak with you.
Miss Wendy: Hey, thank you so much for having me.
Rick/RR: For fans that might be not familiar with you as an artist, please provide a 5,000 foot level as to what makes Miss Wendy “tick” and how you got to where you are today.
Miss Wendy: I’ve been writing music actually since I was a little kid. I have always been very drawn to music, starting with kids’ music, musicals and so on. I have a brother who was a huge rock music fan who got me into that music and through listening to K-Rock here in Los Angeles. He influenced me into some styles of music I might not have been exposed to otherwise like grunge, punk and bands like Nirvana, Green Day and Smashing Pumpkins. Even older bands such as; Oingo Boingo, Jane’s Addiction, The Misfits and The Dead Kennedys. That music was just awesome. I started playing guitar when I was 10, took guitar lessons for nearly 10 years and in addition I took vocal lessons at the Musicians’ Institute. After that, I played for the troops in Iraq; that was pretty cool. I came back and made a record with the bass player from Devo (Gerald Casale) which got onto some VH1 shows including “The Pick-Up Artist” and “Tough Love.” I went out on tour at that point with Green Jello playing guitar which I thought was going to be for a three or four month tour and I ended up being gone for a year and a half. I’ve also had the opportunity to open for Nashville Pussy, Tantric, Taproot and Slash.
After that, I came back to Los Angeles, did a Kickstarter campaign and made a new record, No One Can Stop Me, with Kim Fowley (of Runaways, KISS, Alice Cooper fame). Now I am excited to hit the road again!
Rick/RR: From checking out the new album, it seems all of your early influences you mentioned as well as past tour experiences have each added an element to your diverse and unique style, yet you really do your own thing at the same time.
Miss Wendy: I never tried to immolate any other artist really. When I was first starting out I told my guitar instructor, “I want to be like so and so,” and the answer I was given by him was; “No, you want to be like Wendy! Don’t worry about what other people are doing!” I am really glad he said that because I’ve seen a lot of artists who have grown up putting other artists on some sort of worshipping pedestal and studied what they do and emulated them and never really ever develop their own identity.
Rick/RR: Lyrically, in true old-school school rock-n-roll rebellion, you pretty much cover the gamut in all things that ring “attitude.” The songs you write must be fun to see fans reactions and also just a good time to play live as a musician!
Miss Wendy: (Laughs) Thank you! On the first record it was really just real, raw rebellion and it is a bit of a heavy record in that regard with a little “F-U” attitude as well. With this record, it is a lot more about self-empowerment as well as partying! Really, just being ok with who you are and having fun. That first record is probably great to jam to when you just had a break-up and the new record just makes you feel good, sexy and ready to go out and slam it! (Laughs)
Rick/RR: Your latest effort, No One Can Stop Me, which was released independently a few months ago is causing a buzz and is receiving rave reviews. I believe the initial response in part has helped you recently secure a distribution for the new album. What does the deal mean and will it have any impact on your approach going forward as an artist?
Miss Wendy: Yeah, it is going to be in record stores nationwide in a couple of months on Not Dead Records! They approached me about doing some business together and I figured it was time to get on a label; I’ve been doing it independently for a few years now. I’m excited about bringing a label into it. I’m still an independent artist in a lot of ways of just love doing what I do. That’s one of the best things about being an artist is just being able to do what you want to do, you don’t have some boss hanging over your neck trying to tell you what to do every second of everyday! (Laughs) You can make your own decision which is pretty awesome.
Rick/RR: Maybe my favorite song on the record is the title track, “No One Can Stop Me.” It really excels in that classic up-tempo vibe and rock-n-roll rebellion right from the word start. No one is going to stop or shut up Miss Wendy!
Miss Wendy: (Laughs) Thank you. That song has inspiration from what Gandhi once said in basically not really quoting but, first they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you and then you win. I just felt inspired by that.
Rick/RR: The first video off the album, “Silicon Assassin” is a song that shows the light-hearted, fun side of your music as well as any. The video you shot for the song further exemplifies that. Talk about the video shoot and where the script came from for that song.
Miss Wendy: I really enjoyed the video shoot. The song is actually the theme song for an independent film project with that title (Silicon Assassins)and stars Richard Hatch from the Battlestar Galactica series and is in the music video for the song is well. In the video I am a secret agent and I’m in all these different outfits and on the mission. I had two wardrobe girls working with me. Richard Hatch was one of the other agents. When I was acting with him, it felt so real; like I was really in that role there! (Laughs) I started freaking out and it was like, “Is this a real crisis we are dealing with?” (Laughs) It was almost like I was teleported into the role or something. Richard is just such a great actor and was so gracious to everybody, it was so cool.

Rick/RR: How do you find the balance between that “light-hearted” fun side you seem to thrive on and yet showcase the serious professional musician that you are? You are a very accomplished guitarist, so does it ever concern you that fans and critics might overlook that?
Miss Wendy: I don’t really think so. My shows and records are different and people will see that. I think there is a time to “wank” on the guitar, and for me it isn’t on the record so much. Live is where people really want to see the extended, ridiculous guitar solos that go on for days and getting all wild with it! On the records, I like the solos to be short and sweet. You know, for those people that might say I can’t play – I don’ think a single person would say that after seeing a live show.
Rick/RR: You’ve had the opportunity to show your shredding skills at the NAMM Convention. Talk about that experience as well as some of the reactions you received from on-lookers doing your solo thing.
Miss Wendy: I love that place! I am very big believer in individuality, being yourself and not afraid of that. One of the ways I embody that as an artist is playing with custom gear. I love GMP guitars, they are amazing and some of the best sounding I’ve ever played on. It is also funny to see people’s expression with all this metal sound coming out of a tiny pink amp and just rocking the place! At any live show, at the end of the day I am just trying to give people their monies worth and basically what I would want to see myself at a rock show. I appreciate the fact they spent their hard-earned money and they want to be entertained and to have some fun. Whatever needs to be done, it is my duty as an entertainer to see to it that it is done.
Rick/RR: Talk a little about your up-coming, co-headlining role in the Femme Fest Tour alongside Hear Kitty Kitty with Sara_Rae in support. This should be a tour where fans of this style of rock are going to be in for quite a night of entertainment. Talk about the tour and all the fun details.
Miss Wendy: Yeah, it is going to be great. The full tour starts May 2nd so get ready. It is four female fronted bands from Los Angeles and it includes some of my favorite bands from the area right now. We are going all the way from L.A. to NYC and 19 dates in between.
Rick/RR: Fans might be curious to hear a little about your previous touring with Slash. Give us fun memories from that experience.
Miss Wendy: Opening for Slash was a dream come true. He was so awesome and so supportive. It was great touring with him. I remember after the first show, I was supposed to talk to him, but didn’t get a chance to before he headed off to the next location. I think it was the second show in maybe Salt Lake City; I was setting up my merch booth during their sound check in the corner and after they were done he yelled “Wendy” from the stage and I turn and look, and there it is Slash; jumping up and down and waving. I thought to myself, “No way. This can’t be happening right now – this is so cool!” I walked over to the stage and he told me he had watched our set the other night and it was great. All I could say in a small voice was, “thank you.” (Laughs) I could barely keep my cool to have that conversation with him. He was super nice and a cool person.
Rick/RR: What is the craziest place you’ve ever played on the road at any point in your career so far?
Miss Wendy: I remember a club that had a liquor store right in the club, a deli counter/grocery store and a place you could get a coffee or sandwich type of thing! (Laughs) It was also a serious rock club; literally in the same building where people could drink, watch a show and eat a sandwich! (Laughs) How is that? It was very funny. There are some strange things you run into when you are out on the road! It is just all about getting out there and having a great time with the fans.
Rick/RR: If you had three wishes to be fulfilled musically for the remainder of 2013, what might they be?
Miss Wendy: I would say for the tour to go awesome, seeing the record in stores nationwide and to make a couple more music videos for the new record.
Rick/RR: Miss Wendy thanks again for this lively conversation. I look forward to catching up with you on the road this spring.
Miss Wendy: This was very cool, thank you so much. I will see you and the fans soon!
