Twiztid packs the house in Kansas City
On April 17th, 2016 Juggalo Nation was in full effect at The Riot Room in Kansas City. When I pulled up to the venue an hour and half before the doors were slated to open the line was already down the block and just about to wrap around the corner. It wasn’t long until that happened. What I learned was that the line was not just for the door but mainly droves of fans smeared with grease paint with handfuls of memorabilia waiting to get to meet their favorite artist during the VIP meet and greet. We were lucky enough to be granted access to the VIP event and allowed to shoot the whole thing.
Here is the deal, I could give you another show review and tell you how great the artist was, even the local openers like E the Hustler, but that’s not what I am going to do. Fuck it, I am going off the rails here. We were exposed to something way more important than another show. We saw the interactions between fans and artist and the true admiration they had for each other. From Twiztid to Lex the Hex, to the start of the line of fans, to Luigi of the Super Mario Brothers bringing up the rear, everyone got to spend as much time with each artist as they wanted. Hands were kissed, boobies were shook and even the occasional dude hug was going down in that meet and greet. That is what it is all about people. If you are going to offer a meet and greet and charge good amount for it, you should not be herding people through there like cattle. They had a great set up for their fans that allowed them to spend the quality time and also keep things flowing at a pace that was not going to affect the start of the show. Having the opportunity to watch the people as they went through the line and exit back out of the venue was better than any show that we could have seen that night. So to Twiztid, BoonDox, R.O.C., Lex the Hustler my hat is off to you and I apologize if I left anyone off that list from the VIP event.
Like Jamie said during our interview, “We appreciate them. Without them, there is no us. We understand that dynamic, that equation will never change. We get it. We are fans of shit so we get it… If I were to meet my hero, if I met Adam West at 7-11 and he was a dick… oh my god it would crumble me, it would crumble me god damn it. We understand what it is like to be fans of stuff. Treat others with respect and they treat us with respect…. We are appreciative…” Jamie I hope you get to meet Adam West someday.
PS. Lex the Hex we got to get you a hooded T shirt man, you looked hot as a hell when we saw you outside last night.
