Hailing from South Africa, Made For Broadway has accomplished a lot since forming in 2014. They already have two EPs and a full length album under their belts and in their first 10 months of existence they have grown in the eyes of local booking agents and photographers for their elaborate stage shows. Their first full length brought them to California where they performed for the first time ever at the prestigious Whisky A Go Go. They have also earned a standing invitation to play at the Viper Room. With their main focus on international recognition, Made For Broadway are constantly trying to better their live performances and songwriting.
Who are you and what is your role in the band?
Hi, my name is Sean and I play guitar.
My name is Rob – I’m the drummer
I’m Brogan and I play bass badly.
Justin – our vocalist – is currently partying in Vegas and couldn’t make the interview.
How did the band get started?
Justin and Sean were good friends from high school and at some point decided to get together and jam – they ran into Brogan at a music festival who they knew from another local band and he’d been jamming with Rob for years so everything kind of fell into place after that.
Who are your influences and how do they play a role in your sound?
We all listen to wildly different things, but there are definitely some bands we’re all into – A Day To Remember, Fall Out Boy, Four Year Strong, and a few others. We don’t ever intentionally draw on our influences when we write – it’s a pretty natural process and we write whatever comes to mind.
What has been your most meaningful experience being in this band so far?
It would have to be the response we’ve gotten from fans about our music – it’s been so humbling to get messages from strangers all over the world who are finding meaning in our music and have become part of the Broadway family.
Favorite memory from a show you’ve played or a place you’ve travelled?
Our favourite memory is definitely seeing our name up on the billboard above the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood – our whole USA tour was incredible but that was a real standout moment. On top of that, the insane amount of support and friendship we experienced meeting American bands and fans was unreal and something we won’t forget.
What do you hope to accomplish with your music?
The end goal is to make music every day – travel the world performing everywhere possible, record new material continuously. We’d be too stoked.
Something about you that no one knows?
Sean cuddled up next to Justin and shared a pillow with him on tour – he has to cuddle with something when he’s sleeping.
What is next for the band?
Hopefully more touring – we really want to get back to the US and do Japan, the UK, and Philippines.
