Legendary guitarist and former axeman for The Misfits, Doyle, brought his solo band to Manchester, New Hampshire’s dark, sweat filled Jewel Nightclub for a stop on the As We Die World Abomination Tour. Doyle along with vocalist Alex “Wolfman” Story, bassist Brandon Strate and drummer Wade Murff would give the fans a night to remember.
Before this evening I had not scene Doyle. All I knew about him was the mythology of his time with the Misfits and of course he’s one of the most recognizable figures in metal with his Devilock hair, ghostly white facial make-up and hulking figure – the dude is in amazing shape, accomplishing this with a vegan lifestyle, quite impressive. Other than that, I honestly was not familiar with his music but that was about to change.
Prior to taking the stage I was able to have a chat with the New Jersey native. Quite honestly, I was a little nervous as his presence is intimidating. To my surprise he was very engaging and funny. He’s also quite the football fan, a NY Giants fan specifically. Being in New England and a Patriots fan myself he had his way with me taunting me with the two defeats on the NFL’s biggest stage by his team. I digress but the point being he’s an extremely cool guy and I highly encourage any fan to engage him in one of the VIP Packages available on tour. You will not be disappointed.
SHOWTIME!
Taking the stage to a packed club it was nearly 11:30, a perfect setting for the horror punk quartet. Doyle would kick things off with the title track from 2013’s debut album Abominator. For those expecting to hear anything from Doyle’s previous bands, don’t. This evening was all about Doyle, with a great mix from his latest release, 2017’s Doyle II As We Die and his 2013 debut Abominator and the fans at the Jewel Nightclub didn’t seem to mind one bit.
I had never been to a true punk club show but after this evening I feel like I can check that box. It was a such a cool experience and I felt like we could have been at the legendary NYC club, CBGB’s. Just a great vibe and Doyle’s presence on stage makes it all worthwhile.
Many times, when I photograph and review shows I get what I need and usually beat the crowd out of the venue and I almost never purchase merchandise. If this tells you anything, they were sweeping the floors as I was sitting there supporting my new Doyle T still digesting what an amazing evening of music I had taking in from the legendary Doyle. Whether you’re a fan of punk/metal or not I highly recommend checking out Doyle you will not be disappointed and scrape up the few extra bucks for the VIP Package, it’s well worth it. And don’t forget your T-shirt!
Be sure to check out Doyle on tour and support music by picking up a copy of Abominator and Doyle II As We Die out now.
