Korn blows the roof off of the Uptown Theater

Do you ever just need one of those shows that when you wake up the next morning your head is pounding and you cannot move your neck? Well, Friday, September 29th, the Uptown Theater in Kansas City played host to one of those shows.  Korn, who was scheduled to play that same theater in April and had canceled that date due to unforeseen circumstances, came back like they said they would, and along with Kings Bounty and Ded, completely blew the Kansas City crowd away.

Ded, the rising new comers from Arizona, opened the night and delivered one of the best opening sets I have seen in a very long time.  I don’t know if it was the sound guy, or if the guys from Ded cranked everything to eleven, but their sound was impeccable.  You can tell that Ded is a band that has been living on the road because they are so in tune with each other, they look as if they have been around for twenty years.  If you have not heard of Ded then get your asses a copy of Mis-an-thrope and educate yourself.  You don’t want to be behind the curve when they are headlining stadiums in a couple years.

Kings Bounty, out of New York, played middle men between Ded and Korn as they brought their style of rock to the Uptown Stage.  A mix of alterative and heavy rock kept the audience tuned up and ready for Korn

As I said earlier, Korn missed their date in April and vowed to be back and what better song to start the night off than “Rotting in Vain”, the song that kicked off their epic return from the album The Serenity of Suffering.  There is nothing better than Johnathan Davis’ hard core scatting in the middle of a song to get the juices flowing.  Oh, and it did not stop there; “Got the Life”, “Here to Stay”, and “Make Me Bad” are just a few other songs that were fed to the hungry Kansas City fans and they could not seem to get enough.  I said Ded played with the experience of a twenty-year-old band, well, Korn had the energy and excitement of a band in their twenty’s.  Seeing Jonathan Davis with his hands clutching the H.R. Giger mic stand bent over head banging just as hard as everyone in the audience is a site you have to see at least once in your life.  It wasn’t just Mr. Davis.  Oh no, Fieldy, Head, Munky, and Ray were all fired up and all over that stage.  Well, Ray was a little confined, but damn it, I bet he wouldn’t have been.  Before shutting it down, Korn treated the Uptown crowd to “Freak on a Leash” which sent all those little freaks into a heated frenzy.  It was a night that truly went full circle from young and up and coming stars to the legends that have done their time.
