KISS – FREEDOM TO ROCK TOUR

KISS - Freedom To Rock TourThe Freedom to Rock tour featuring the best band in the world – KISS – swung through the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena in Independence, Missouri, on Wednesday, July 20th. KISS always brings the production value to every show. From “Detroit Rock City” to “Rock and Roll All Night”, the arena was filled with fire and lights and what one fellow writer called 400 pounds of confetti. For me, the show was not about KISS and their music or even the show; it was roaming the corridors before the shows and seeing all of the fans and the complete and utter joy on everyone’s faces. Many of those faces were painted with their favorite KISS member, and the ones that were not painted had their hair in the Gene Simmons top knot.

There was an overabundance of parents with their kids being brought together over the power of KISS. Families of all ages were there to see the lights and sounds of their parents’ childhoods, and it was amazing. The greatest moment for me was seeing a father with his young son as he knelt down and expressed his joy to his son that he could not believe that they were seeing a KISS show together. Then, he just hugged him as tight as he could. Yes, I know you all want to hear about the music, and did Gene fall again and all that good jazz, but there was something more important going on that night than a rock show. In a world full of madness right now, men and women, parent and child, complete strangers were brought together through the power of music, and for a few hours on a Wednesday night, all cares and worries were gone. And, dear readers, that is what makes the Freedom to Rock a great name for this tour.
