Bass may be one of the most important and yet criminally underrated instruments in rock music, that’s just fact. Thankfully, for bass fans, such front-men as Primus’s Les Claypool and Morphine’s Mark Sandman redefined bass playing in the 80s and 90s; and, of course, there’s such superstar bass players as Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea. Sorry, got off topic there, but the point is that the bass guitar, while relegated to the rhythm section, is irreplaceable to the rock sound (yeah, we know, The Doors, blah blah blah), and Austin, TX progressive metal band Chronologist decided to showcase this reality with their release of Jim Schaefer’s bass play-through of their track “Guacaracha,” off of their 2016 release album, Cartographer.
