RockRevolt’s very own Anabel DFlux had the opportunity to chat with Karim about his musical endeavor, the new album, upcoming shows, and more!
RockRevolt: Hey there! Thank you so much for chatting with me today, how are you?
Karim: Hello Anabel thank you so much for the opportunity to chat with you. I’m doing really good as of today.
RR: Tell me about your project. What do you want our readers to know about you?
K: My Name is Karim Ortega and My Band Project is called Siniestra Kabaret. It’s pretty much the music I have been producing for quite sometime now, and finally I have been able to start playing live shows around Los Angeles California.
RR: Tell me about the upcoming album release! How was it conceptualized? Written? Recorded?
K: Well this album was released in December 2018. It’s an Album of 8 songs called Sick Sick World.
This whole concept or ideas originated many years ago, and through time I gathered all the ideas, songs I had worked on, and elements to put it together. It’s a combination of personal experiences writings mixed with a twist of horror and Halloween stories with a touch of sarcasm in some lyrics. I recorded this album in my home studio here in Los Angeles California, some songs date back to 10 years old, some are newer. It was mixed and mastered by a friend Miguel Gardo.
RR: Chat with me a bit about the album cover! How did you come up with the idea?
K: The Album cover is a combination of famous monsters representing what always have had an impact in my life since a young age. Halloween themes, dark music, horror, and obscure literature. It was designed by my brother Eliciel Villalobos and the original shot by the one and only Anabel Dflux.
RR: Describe your show.
I don’t know if I can describe it hehe, but I think it could be a combination of dark eerie music with a touch of aggressiveness when it’s time to hit the stage. Gothic attires and with a little bit halloween touch.
RR: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.
Our next bigger show will be May 10 at the Whisky A Go Go, we will be performing with the legendary band 45 Grave along with other bands such as Black Heroin Gallery. I play bass guitar with them .
RR: How do you describe your music to people?
K: For me it’s hard to describe it, because I don’t follow any music pattern or specific style when it comes down to writing my music, but if I must, it can be a combination of goth rock with some electronic elements adding some splashes of metal.
RR: What image do you think your music conveys?
K: I think it represents what any other artist does, a form of expression, rebellion, a way to let thoughts out with music- in my case the goth world and the dark culture.
RR: How would you define the word “success”?
K: Success to me is the representation of a daily discipline to keep achieving things, and being able to perform and do things I love, like art and music.
RR: Which famous musicians do you admire? Why?
K: I have so many that admire but to name a some Jim Morrison and the Doors. He was one of the most outstanding poets, the way he wrote his poetry, and performance was unique. Their music will live forever and something that time won’t fade away .
RR: What are your fondest musical memories?
K: Well I can say when I first put my band together in 1995 back when i lived in Guadalajara Jalisco Mexico.
RR: When and why did you start playing?
K: I started playing in 1991 as a drummer, and moving onto vocals and other instruments, taking classes with friends here and there. I started with the itch of music at a young age probably 8 or 9, watching other singers on the TV and music shows, dreaming one day I could be doing the same. Then to realized this was something that was deep inside my soul and couldn’t stop doing.
RR: Any last words for us before we conclude this interview?
K: I want to thank you and your team for this amazing opportunity and the time you have given me, and stay tuned for more shows to come as Siniestra Kabaret evolves little by little every day!
RR: Thank you!
